Online resources

The following online resources may be helpful as you grow in your personal study of Scripture. They are listed in roughly the order a new Bible student might find them most useful. As with all study aids—including commentaries, study Bibles, and online articles—we encourage believers to compare everything against Scripture itself (Acts 17:11). No secondary resource should ever replace careful reading of God’s Word.

As you study Scripture:

  • Pray for wisdom and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you study (James 1:5; John 16:13).
  • Begin with the Bible itself before consulting study aids.
  • Compare multiple translations when a passage is difficult to understand.
  • Pay attention to context—the surrounding verses, chapter, book, and overall biblical narrative.
  • Use original-language tools to clarify the meaning and range of biblical words, but avoid building doctrine on a single word or definition alone.
  • Read commentaries only after forming your own understanding whenever possible.
  • Remember that every teacher, commentator, ministry, and study Bible—including those listed here—is fallible. Our final authority is the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16–17), and like the Bereans, we should examine the Scriptures daily to determine whether what we hear is true (Acts 17:11).
